I stumbled across Fatz after reading an article in a magazine about some good burger places in Tokyo.
The store owner and chef is an expat American and seems super passionate about delivering that American style comfort food.
As well as making some amazing burgers, there are American drinks on the menu, as well as a baked good or two each time I've popped in, like a pie or pound cake.
The street address is 〒166-0002 Tokyo, Suginami, 高円寺北3丁目21-19 ライオンズプラザ高円寺E号, which you should be able to copy and paste into Google Maps. It's a small store on the back streets of Koenji (a suburb of Tokyo) so it can be a little tricky to find without directions handy!
This little store on the back streets of Omotesando gets packed, quickly - so I think that says something about the quality of the food as well as the popularity of the place! We have had times where we got there soon after they opened and there was already a large queue!
The store itself is small, but I definitely think it's worth the wait. The burgers are flavorsome and hearty and the buns are really good too (I think both the burger patty and the bun have to be on point for it to be great overall!)
You can check out their Facebook page here, and their street address for Google Maps is 〒107-0061 Tokyo, Minato, 北青山3-8-11.
I think Mike would say without a doubt that Arms takes out top spot for his number one favorite burger place in Tokyo. He always orders the Popeye burger, which has spinach and bacon on it, and raves about how delicious it is. I get the basic hamburger and even that is full of flavor and has never disappointed.
Arms burger also sells things like sandwiches and hot dogs, so even if you're not keen on a burger you have other options! Also, one of the things we love about this place apart from the delicious food is that they are dog friendly - so if you're a local you can bring your canine pal along! They're located right by Yoyogi Park, and the street address is 5 Chome-64-7 Yoyogi, Shibuya, Tokyo 151-0053.
Teddy's Bigger Burgers
This was a recommendation from a friend for us, and we were impressed when we ate there. It's originally a Hawaiian Burger Place, that made its' way to Tokyo - but despite it technically being a chain we found their burgers delicious. Their chili fries are pretty great, too.
We've never tried the giant burger in the picture (the Premium Mega Monster Burger - which is 3800 yen!) but I imagine if you really want to put the "bigger" into Teddy's Bigger Burgers you could absolutely give it a whirl.
Their street address for Google Maps is 〒150-0001 Tokyo, Shibuya, Jingumae, ６−２８−５ 宮崎ビル
Homeworks is located in Hiroo and Azabu Juban and was a bit of a mainstay for us when we were living closer to central Tokyo! They do a range of great burgers (I like the chili burger, Mike's favorite is the avocado burger) and they also have a kids menu which is nice if you have little ones along with you. Homeworks also offer lots of vegetarian options too, like veggie burgers, falafel burgers, and grilled eggplant sandwiches, so even if you're not a meat eater there's still choices for you!
The Hiroo store is located at 〒150-0012 Tokyo, Shibuya, Hiroo, 5−1−20, 七星舎ビル１F
The Azabu Juban Store is located at 1-5-8 Azabu-Juban,Tokyo, 106-0045.
