Hoshino Coffee - the chain that doesn't feel like a chain!

I always think that starting a weekend with a delicious breakfast and some good coffee is one of the best ways to start the weekend right! Anyone with me?
This morning we visited one of our favorite neighborhood spots nearby, Hoshino Coffee. They are a chain (there's locations in Shinjuku and Shibuya, for instance) but I think part of the reason I like it there so much is that it doesn't feel like a chain! My local store just feels like a cute little independently owned coffee shop. I love the façade at the front that makes part of the building look traditionally Japanese and part of it look modern!

One of the big drawcards on their menu are their soufflé pancakes. You can either get one soufflé pancake for 550 yen, or two for 700 yen (+ tax) and there's even ones with fancier variations and toppings.  You'll see on the menu pages below they don't just offer sweets, but a bunch of savory options too such as omelettes, katsu curry, doria, and sandwiches on other menu pages! Also it's not just a breakfast spot - they're usually open until around 10pm.

They also have a range of beverages, too. I stuck with the old faithful latte - but there are various different tea and coffee options.

Today they also had this seasonal menu in store, which focused on strawberry items! Mike ordered the strawberry French toast - and it looked just as good in real life as the display picture on the menu!

Check out that deliciousness! He took a bite and raved about it!

I stuck with the soufflé pancakes today. I will say - these are filling - quite honestly I really could have stuck with one and that would have been more than sufficient! Luckily I managed to palm some of it off to Mike and my daughter (who wasn't at all mad about it!)

If you're wanting to try out Hoshino Coffee and enjoy a yummy breakfast or other meal, a couple of locations are here:
Shinjuku: 〒160-0022 Tokyo, Shinjuku, 新宿3丁目17-5 新宿ニュー富士ビル2F
Shibuya: 109 MEN'S, 1-23-10 Jinnan, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0041
Each store seems to have varying opening hours (for instance my local store out in the suburbs opened today at 8am, but it seems the Shibuya location has a 10am opening time) so if you plan on checking a store out, do check the hours online to make sure it's open when you want to pop in!

Enjoy!
