Best Places to Shop in Tokyo

Hi everyone! It's Kim Dao here, today I'm going to be sharing with you my favourite places to shop in Tokyo. Shopping is something that is on a lot of people's minds when they prepare to come to Japan. However for the first time travelling to Japan, it can get overwhelming as there are so many areas where you can go, especially in Tokyo.
In this blog post I’m going to be telling you where I recommend you to go shopping if you are a first time traveller to Japan. If course Tokyo is huge so there are so many places you can visit, but I’m going to be telling you the places where I recommend you should  


Shibuya is the heart of fashion for young adults. If you are going to Shibuya and are latest fashion trends, Shibuya109 is the place to be. Shibuya109 is catered to young adults and has a wide range of different fashion styles ranging from casual brands like WEGO, sweet and girly brands like LIZ LISA or more mature brands like Emoda. Department stores such as Seibu and Hikarie carry a lot of high end brands for makeup and fashion. Shibuya Center-Gai has many restaurants as well as unique stores such as It's Demo, Loft and Tokyu Hands which are great for souvenirs. There are also a few drugstores for all your makeup needs.


Harajuku is known for unique and trendy fashion. For more unique Japanese branded clothing you can check out Laforet. They carry all sorts of styles from Lolita, Gothic Lolita as well as casual clothes. For those who are after a bargain and are after the latest trends, Takeshita street is a must go. It is usually very crowded, more so on weekends. At Takeshita street you can find some clothing styles that are similar in Shibuya109 for a cheaper price. 


 Shinjuku station is the busiest in the world. It is a convenient place to stay as Shinjuku station has so many train lines which makes it easy to travel to many places in Tokyo.  Shinjuku has many department stores with many different styles of fashion. Studio Alta and MyLord are great for young adults whereas Takashimaya and Isetan are great for the more mature. Shinjuku also has multiple drugstore that are very large for all your Japanese drugstore needs. 


For those who are after electronics like games, cameras, computers etc, Akihabara is the place to go. Akihabara is known as the “Electric Town” of Tokyo. If you are after retro games to relieve your childhood memories, there are numerous of stores selling secondhand goods. If you are a lover of anime and manga, this is the one place you must go. One store that you should definitely check out is “Super Potato” which is a retro store. You will be able to buy games that are rare and hard to find anywhere else. Make sure you check out stores such as Animate to find the latest anime/manga goods! Don't forget to check out the Don Quijote for lots of unique Japanese goods!
