No need to worry though - Japan has you covered! From supermarkets to convenience stores, there are a bunch of delicious offerings on sale that are just like home made food but are ready to serve - requiring nothing more than a quick zap in the microwave to heat them up.
These are some of our favorites - and pretty common ones that you can find across many supermarkets and convenience stores. The top picture on the left contains hamburger steak with rice, some pasta, and a coleslaw type salad. The middle is Japanese curry with rice and katsu (probably my personal favorite!) and on the right is yakisoba.
The bottom picture has (from left to right) katsu with egg and rice, gyoza, and udon with tempura.
These are just a few of the options they had at my local supermarket that I snapped pictures of - there were plenty of other quick and easy heat and eat meal choices.
Most options are going to run you about 200 to 500 yen depending on what you get. Plus, one of the best parts is if you head there later in the afternoon or early evening, you can often score some great markdowns! You'll see on some of the pictures I took, they have stickers on them indicating a certain percentage off the marked price. When it comes to vacations, any money that I can save is a nice thing - so hopefully this tip is helpful for some of you too. An added bonus is at convenience stores, they'll ask if you want the meal heated then and there if you're planning on eating it right away - so if you're staying nearby and perhaps don't have a microwave at your accommodation, you can still have a warm and inexpensive meal.
