Do you want to enjoy your Japanese food without spending more? I used to visit affordable restaurant or convenience store during my Japan trip. This is help me to spend less and enjoy more. Although the price is cheap, these restaurants offer fresh foods and comfortable environment to the customers. Sushi, udon and ramen are the most foods that I’m craving of. These cuisine of Japan is the most famous Japanese dish and you can find it anywhere in Japan. This article shows to you 10 affordable places for Japanese food under 2000 yen or even less. 1. Mentsu-Dan (東京麺通団)
This restaurant is located in west of Shinjuku station near Kabukicho. Mentsu-Dan is a self-serve restaurant which provides famous Japanese food called Udon. Udon made fresh in front of you. Customer needs to order udon at the counter and select toppings by yourself. There also provides side dishes and tempura, the price around 100-150 yen.

2. Kura Zushi (くら寿司)
Kura Zushi is popular conveyor belt sushi restaurant available widely in Japan. The restaurant offers various sushi creations with only 100 yen per plate (plus tax). Yes!! It is very cheap. They also provide English menu, so no worry about ordering foods. The important is fresh sushi. Since all plates contain a chip for this system, they know how long a plate has been on the belt and needs to dispose of. n>

3. Shinjuku Kappo Nakajima (新宿割烹中嶋)
Nakajima is one of the Michelin starred restaurant in Tokyo. It is very easy to find this restaurant as near a subway station. About 10-minute walk from Shinjuku station south exit. The lunch menu is simple and affordable to travelers. They offers 4 options sardines done in 4 ways – sashimi, deep-fried, boiled with soya sauce and yanagawa nabe. All lunch menu only around 800-900 yen with rice, soup and a side dish. One more rice… No problem, you can refill rice for free.

4. Ramen Hidakaya (日高屋)
Hidakaya has many branches at various location near train station in Japan. It is very convenient to stop in Hidakaya for lunch and dinner. There are many options of ramen that we can choose such as miso soup broth, pork bone broth or Chinese style. Also, they served gyoza, karake fried chicken and kimchi. The served portion is very big with only around 390-500 yen.

5. Fukushin Shin-Okubo (福しん)
It is centrally located around Ikebukuro and Shinjuku areas. This ramen restaurant is hand-made noodles with soup and fresh ingredients to grab customers’ satisfaction. They provide ramen, rice with side dish, dumpling and other dishes at reasonable price.

6. Kichijoji Donburi (吉祥寺どんぶり)
This restaurant is only 2-minute walk from park exit of Kichijoji station. Turn right and walk straight after exiting the station. They provide everything fresh on the spot. Just place an order at the machine, take a seat and wait the foods come to you. While your food is being cooked, the staff will put miso soup and raw egg in front of you. I like large tartar karaage rice bowl at only 690 yen.

7. Kitsuneya (Tsukiji) (築地きつねや)
Kitsuneya is located in Tsukuji market, which is only 4-minute walk from Tsukuji station on the Hibiya line. This restaurant provide eat seated at the counter or standing seat in front of the store. It is highly recommended by many travelers popular beef bowl – Horumon-don (offal stew with rice) at 850 yen. Besides, they also offer gyūdon(simmered beef and onions with rice) and nikudofu (tofu and beef with no rice). All the foods is presented immediately after order. So, it comes fresh and hot.

8. Matsuya (松屋)
Matsuya is Japanese chain outlet for budget eats. It is located at JR Tokyo station Yaesu north exit 3-minute walk. The restaurant provides freshest vegetables, fishes, and meats dishes to the customer at reasonable price. All orders are done on a machine and hand it to the waiter. The food will appear quickly on a tray and condiments are on the table.

9. Korakuen (幸樂苑) 
Kourakuen ramen is famous chain of ramen restaurants in Japan. According to the favourite chain of ramen in 2017, Kourakuen ramen is the first and many Japanese citizen like to go and eat. They served in a broth with bits of meat and vegetables. The top selling menu is Chu-ka-soba and there have gyoza and fried rice at very cheap price as well.

10. 7-eleven or Family Mart
The last but not least, convenience stores like Family Mart & 7 Eleven is a great place for cheap eats. Literally available almost everywhere in Tokyo. A wide variety of bentos are available such as udon, rice, pasta and sushi. The stores has spaces where you can eat.
