All You Can Eat Quality Yakiniku

"All You Can Eats" are definitely one of the best things about Japan, from all you can eat hot pot restaurants, to all you can drink wine bars.  One of my all-time favorites though, are all you can eat Yakiniku, or barbeque restaurants!  Just thinking about the heavenly smell of barbequed beef, paired with some refreshing Asahi beer is enough to make me drool.   

After trying many places around Tokyo, I've settled on one restaurant that's become my go-to place for a hearty dinner-Yakiniku Fufutei (焼肉風風亭).  Though it's technically a "Korean style" barbeque, they serve fresh local Japanese beef, chicken, cow tongue, etc, and more than 60 types of Japanese style beer, Sake and cocktails.  Fufutei has 12 restaurants around Japan, mainly around the Tokyo area and Osaka area.

There are several courses to choose from, but the most popular ones are the all you can eat and drink courses, which are separated into the Yakiniku course, and Shabu Shabu (hot pot) course.  Both are around JPY 3000, and will provide you with 120 minutes of an endless supply of heavenly meat and delicious alcohol, but if that's not enough, you can always order more from the side menu, which includes Korean fried rice, Kimchi soup, Mentai salad and so on.

I usually opt for the Yakiniku course, but during wintertime, Shabu Shabu is also a great choice!  For this course, you get to choose between a normal Shabu Shabu, or Sukiyaki, which consists of thinly sliced meat simmered in a shallow pot with sweet flavored soup, and then dipped in special sauce or raw, beaten eggs.  The best part about this course is that apart from the hot pot, you are also given a small grill, on which you can barbeque meat while you wait for other dishes, so it's really two courses for the price of one!

Apart from meat, Fufutei also offers fresh, delicious seafood (also included in the all you can eat menu!).  A popular dish is the Kaisen Moriawase (Assorted Seafood Platter), which generously includes shrimp, clams, squid and so on.  My personal favorite is their shrimp, which is bouncy in texture and slightly crispy-the perfect combination for some top-quality shrimp! 

Of course, what is Yakiniku without some awesome sauce?  Fufutei produces their own seasoned sauce, which is smokey but with a slight tinge of sweetness.  The subtle taste accents the flavor of the meat, and is a must-try when dining at this restaurant.
