Yesterday, I was the benefactor of Tokyo's import of the best the rest of the world has to offer when I came across a famous London bakery that had migrated over to two locations in Japan's capital city:
While I've never been to London, my commonwealth wife tells me that they are quite numerous over there. Still, with limited locations here in Tokyo, it was a real treat to stumble across this little gem of a bakery.
Lola's offers a decent range of pastry options, including cakes and brownies, but as the name indicates, their specialty is the cupcake. And oh boy, what a variety of delicious cupcakes they offer. Just check out the cupcake menu below:
You'll notice that even though Lola's is a British chain, the bakers here in Tokyo have some liberty to sell their own creations, so you can enjoy limited edition choices like "Tokyo Vanilla" and Matcha. So many good choices, it's tough to settle on just one...
So, being the health nut I am, I opted to get a full box of the "tiny" instead of regular sized cupcakes, and went on merry way.
Here's what I brought home:
I opted for a pretty good mix of flavors, though I will definitely want to go back to get the rest of the flavors that I couldn't fit into this one box.
Still, I grabbed the two that had the most appeal for me to be my first taste of Lola's Cupcakes: Cookie and Cream and Chocolate Heaven.
While I think the picture says a thousand words about how delicious these cupcakes are, they are definitely something you need to try for yourself--they are fantastic.
As I mentioned earlier, there are two Lola's Cupcakes in Tokyo: one in Harajuku (in the Cascade Harajuku Building between Takeshita Dori and the main drag of Meiji Dori); and one in Roppongi Hills. The stores are open everyday (including holidays) from 11:00 - 20:00 (Harajuku store) and 11:00 - 21:00 (Roppongi Hills store).
