Osaka is one of the most popular cities for tourists even though Osaka is smaller than Tokyo. Over 9.4 million foreign tourists visited Osaka in 2016 which is the largest number ever. In Osaka, you may find number of delicious restaurants and street foods to visit. In addition, there have a lot of goodies that you can purchase as a souvenir from Dotobori to Shinsaibashi. For me, I like to find some special sweets or snacks as a souvenir. Today, I would like to recommend some sweets or snacks that you can find it only in Osaka, Japan. 

1. Madame Shinko Brulee / Baumkuchen
Osaka has a lot of famous sweets, I would like to say that Madame Shinko Brulee is the best sweet in Osaka. This Brulee is a German style spit cake seeped in maple syrup and sprinkled with French imported brown sugar and it is covered in caramel. The great texture and the gentle sweetness of the savory caramel will fill your mouth. It is very fun way to eat the cake is to freeze it. It becomes crunchy when you taste it. If you like chocolate and matcha flavors, you should try it because both flavors are available at the store. Honestly, I like original flavor and this flavor is the best seller at the store as well.

551 Horai’s Pork Bun is another must buy item in Osaka. There have many branches across Kansai area. The store located 1-minute walk from exit 11 of Namba station of subway Midosuji and Sennichimae line. Many tourists and local people buy the bun as a souvenirs back to their country. Therefore, you can see why the bun sold more than 110,000 pieces every day. The fresh buns consist of diced pork and sweet onion with juicy and chewy texture. If you are not pork lover, red bean buns shrimp dumplings also available at the stores.

 If you like Pocky, you are definitely love Ezaki Glico’s Bâton d'or. This is one of the most popular sweets in Osaka. Bâton d'or is made from dough kneaded with butter. The stick is consist of various flavors you can choose from, such as milk, chocolate, strawberry, apple, butter, matcha, coffee and cinnamon. The sweet is limited item and only available in Osaka. You can get Pocky in many countries, however, Bâton d'or is quite rare and only can get it in Osaka. Why not try it for yourself and buy this sweet as a gift.

4. Uncle Rikuro Cheese Cake 
Another popular crowd favorite is Uncle Rikuro Cheesecake which is a famous bakery chain in Osaka. It is located in 2-minute walk from subway Midosuji line namba station. A long queue around the block every day for buying cheesecake and it has proved that this is the store’s best-selling product. This special cheesecake is made with cream cheese imported from Denmark, fresh eggs and milk. It is very yummy cheese scent and fluffy fresh cake come out every branch time. You can get it to major train stations in Osaka such as Hankyu Umeda station or JR Shin-Osaka station.

5. Omoshiroi Koibito 
Hokkaido has famous souvenir called Shiroi Koibito and Osaka has similar packaging souvenir called Osaka Omoshiroi Koibito. Both of the cookies are different. Hokkaido’s Shiroi Koibito is small square cookie while Omoshiroi Koibiti is large round cookie. Omoshiroi means funny while Koibito means lover in English. This Omoshiroi Koibito is a thin cookie with white chocolate filling spread in the middle. It is good to eat after you freeze it. There still have various flavors depending on the season such as banana or melon. The cute packaging and ready to serve. You can find them in almost every souvenir shop in Osaka.

Moncher Patisserie is a popular roll cake in Japan. The store is located in Dojimahama in Osaka and there are always a long line of people waiting to get one. Many local and tourists like to buy this roll cake as a souvenir to family and friends. This signature roll cake has a perfect taste and texture and it can be shared with 6-8 people. You can’t imagine how fluffy, soft and nicely moisture is it. They use fresh raw milk from Hokkaido and high quality flours to make the softness sponge and milky cream. The store also come out chocolate and fruits roll cakes If you are not whipped cream lover, you can pick other pastries such as puffs, tarts or crepes at the store.

7. Osaka Petit Banana
Another Osaka souvenir must be Osaka Petit Banana. The cake has extremely fluffy, soft and light with custard cream filling with bananas. The texture is so good and delicious and not too sweet for me. If you like different texture, you can freeze the custard cream which you can enjoy the cream melts in your mouth.  I like the cute packaging and perfect bite size per piece. I am highly recommend these as souvenirs for family and friends.

8. Kuidaore Taro Pudding
Many residents and tourists are highly recommended to get Kuidaore Taro Pudding as a souvenir in Osaka. Kuidaore Taro is famous mascot in Osaka and the store is located in Dotonbori. The packaging is so cute and it’s wrapped in a small box of 3 small hats with puddings. You will find the puddings after remove the hat. Add caramel crush with little chunks of candy later on top of puddings. It is easy to bring and eat. Find it at the 1st floor of Nakaza Kuidaore Building in Dotonbori or Osaka station, Shin-Osaka station and Namba station.

Another famous souvenir sweet from Osaka southern called Sakai. Who likes chewy texture? This is the right chewy sweet that you must buy in Osaka. It is a soft chewy rice cake with red bean paste filling and covered with poppy seeds. This is the pride of the local sweets offered at Kojimaya, where a shop has been in business continuously for 300 years. You can get it at Kojimaya store, train stations, airport and department store. Please check your nearest store to have one.

Calbee is Japan’s most well-known potato chip manufacturers. Calbee Jagariko is one of the company popular snack across Japan. It is snack foods like stick-shaped made from potato in many flavors where you can buy in convenience stores and department stores. Crunchy texture has become popular snack in Japan. However, I would like to recommend a special Takoyaki flavor. You can buy this flavor only in Osaka. This Tokoyaki Jagariko snack is like a ball shape with octopus placed inside a wheat flour coating. Find this snack in souvenir stores and department stores in Osaka as a souvenir to your family and friends. Of course, Calbee also has many popular snacks that you have to try such as Calbee potato chips Kansai Dashi Shoyu, Calbee Jaga Pokkuru and Calbee Jagariko Mentai cheese monja flavor. Calbee Jaga Pokkuru is my favorite snack as well. You can try to get one.

13. Fruit Daifuku 
Fruit Daifuku is a famous sweet in Sakai which is southern area of Osaka. Daifuku is a traditional Japanese sweet with chewy texture. It is made by seasonal fruits and wrapped with a layer of mochi. There have a lot of seasonal fruits such as strawberry, mango, peach, orange, watermelon and other delicious fruits. When you take a bite, the chewy texture and fresh fruits melt in your mouth. It is definitely surprise me. You can get it in Hankyu department Umeda main store and Isshindo main store just around 5-minute walk from Hagihara Tenjin station.

Another traditional sweets from Fukujudo Hidenobu, Osaka. Fuku menas luck and good fortune in Japanese, which a person send you a good fortune. Therefore, FukuFukuFu is the best souvenir for you to bring home. The sweets are look like simple wagashi, however, all the sweets are made by hand. This sweet is made by rice flour and wheat flour with quality butter, red bean paste to create a soft and fluffy texture. In addition, there also have other flavors such as green tea, coffee, strawberry (spring), mango (summer) and other seasonal ingredients. There are many other sweets available at the store to you. The last must buy souvenir definitely is Matcha sweets or snacks. In Osaka, you can find a lot of foods, sweets or snacks are made by matcha. The top popular is Kit Kat with matcha flavor and also there have other flavors which you can find it in other countries. Pocky is another popular snack in Osaka at cheap price. Uji matcha Pocky is the best flavor. Matcha Cheese cake or tarts from Pablo is another best sweet for matcha fans. It is very interesting when the matcha cream cheese melts in to your mouth. Matcha soft serve is good to fulfil our satisfactory of matcha. Although you can’t bring it to your home country, but this soft serve you are definitely need to try on the spot during summer, autumn, spring or even winter seasons. Crazy? No no no. You will know it if you try. Finally, if you are a huge fan of green tea, green tea powder is must buy souvenir. Natural and fresh green tea power is available at convenience stores, department stores or airport.
