The coffee lovers guide to Okinawa

Okinawa is one of my favorite spots to visit through all of Japan. A place that has beautiful beaches, warm weather - and amazing coffee shops too?! It's a reason for repeat visits, without a doubt. Here are some of the fun spots on the island that you can enjoy your caffeine fix - it can be a necessary requirement to give you the extra oomph for all the swimming, snorkeling and sightseeing you'll likely be doing!

Okinawa Cerrado Coffee

You can't miss the storefront of this cute little coffee shop, with its lime green trim - and the store really does have that relaxed, island vibe about it. As well as offering various coffees in store, they have bags of their blends that you can buy and take home, all emblazoned with their signature toucan on the packaging. The only downside to visiting Okinawa Cerrado Coffee is that they don't open until noon daily, so if you need your caffeine fix earlier you're unfortunately out of luck. Their store hours are from 12pm until 6.30pm Monday through Sunday, and they're closed on holidays. You can find them at 2 Chome-15-5 Minatogawa, Urasoe, Okinawa Prefecture 901-2134 and their website is here.

T&M Coffee

T&M Coffee has a really interesting philosophy - they are all about using different kinds of beans, and preparing coffee in different ways. Some coffee shops stick to one kind of beans, or one preparation method, but here at T&M Coffee they use several. You can choose from the old faithful french press, nel drip coffee (where flannel filters are used), paper drip coffee, siphon coffee and espresso. They tout themselves as the best coffee in all of Okinawa, so pay them a visit if you have a chance! You can find them at 1 Chome-2-6 Makishi, Naha, Okinawa Prefecture 900-0013 - and just bear in mind that they are closed each Tuesday.

Yamada Coffee Okinawa

Yamada Coffee opened back in 2015, and has been a popular addition to the Okinawan coffee scene. It doesn't hurt that the interior of the store is gorgeously trendy, with concrete walls, wood shelving and amazing light fixtures - but the coffee here is really good too. As well as serving up tasty brews, they are also big on seasonal eats here - parfaits and baked goodies are some of their specialties. You can find Yamada Coffee at 3 Chome-17-3 Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture 901-2211.

Kramp Coffee Store

If you love a good homemade baked treat with your coffee, or a tasty breakfast plate - Kramp Coffee is the place for you. The store is run by a super friendly husband and wife team, and they open at 9am daily which is significantly earlier than some other places on the island (just bear in mind they are closed each Friday). Their lemon tart is killer if you're after something sweet, and the breakfast plate is great value and has some of the creamiest scrambled eggs you'll ever have the pleasure of enjoying. You can find Kramp Coffee Store at 5 Chome-32-2 Awase, Okinawa, Okinawa Prefecture 904-2172.
