Railways are a major means of transportation in Toyama; the prefecture has three main lines with Ainokaze Toyama Railway, JR Line and Toyama Chiho Railway. Ainokaze Toyama Railway runs through the prefecture from east to west, while JR Himi and JR Johana connects Takaoka Station to both areas and the JR Takayama Line connects Toyama Station to Takayama in Gifu Prefecture.
If you are planning on getting to Toyama prefecture from the outside, it is also relatively easy to do so. From Osaka, it takes about 3 hours to get to Toyama Station by using the JR lines. From Tokyo station it takes about 2 hours, and Nagoya about 3 and a half hours.
Plane
The main airport is Toyama Airport, and fortunately, there are many flights both domestic and international going to and from Toyama airport. Seoul, Dailan, Shanghai, and Taipei are all places that you can get to Toyama from, all within three hours. From Haneda airport, it takes a little less than an hour to get to Toyama Airport.
