Saitama 1-day-tour Itinerary

Saitama is a great place to take a day trip from Tokyo, as it is very easy to go from your accommodation in your city, to Saitama to enjoy the whole day, and come back to your accommodation by nightfall. You can also stay the night in Saitama, as there are a variety of traditional ryokan to stay at near Kawagoe Station. If you want to go out of your way and visit the farther tourist destinations such as the COEDO brewery, you may want to rent a car from Tokyo and go from there.

Day 1
Take the train from Ikebukuro to Kawagoe Station, and get off. Here, you can enjoy the old-fashioned streets and taste the snacks of the olden days. Most of the stores are still their original wooden architecture, and give off an Edo era vibe. After you’ve had your fill of Little Edo, go to the Hon-Kawagoe station, and take the Seibu Shinjuku Line to Tokorozawa station, and then the Seibu Ikebukuro Line to Kotesashi Station.

From here, take the bus to Dainichido, and walk a few minutes to Kurosuke’s house. This house is the inspiration to the soot sprite house from the Ghibli movie My Neighbor Totoro. After living out your fantasy of playing with Totoro, you can go back to Kawagoe station, and take the Kawagoe line to Nisshin station. From here, walk to the Ofuro Café Utatane, and have a nice relaxing bath while reading your favorite book, or drinking a nice cup of tea. Once finished, you can go back to the city center, or stay overnight at Omiya or Kawagoe Stations.
