Well, if you'll be in Japan this January and will be in Tokyo, there's a solution for you to get your festival fix - and that's by heading to the Furusato Matsuri!
The Furusato Matsuri is an event that showcases a number of different festivals from all across Japan. Some of the festivals on display include the Akita Kanto Matsuri, the Aomori Nebuta Festival, Shimane's Iwami Kagura Festival, Tottori's Shan-Shan Matsuri, and Tokyo's Koenji Awa-Odori Festival amongst others.
Another reason to check out the Furusato Matsuri is for the abundance of tasty festival food on offer! It gives you a great opportunity to try regional specialties from all over Japan in the one spot - perfect if you want to experience some of the best eats the land of the rising sun has to offer, but don't necessarily have the time to travel the country from end to end. One of the best things at the Furusato Matsuri are their range of donburi bowls hailing from different parts of Japan - from grilled eel donburi through to fried chicken donburi and everything in between.
The 2018 Furusato Matsuri is held from the 12th of January through to the 21st of January inclusive, at the Tokyo Dome. The event also has a Facebook Page with more information that you can access at the link here. If you're headed to Tokyo Dome, another great spot to check out right by there are the Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens. Map details for getting to Tokyo Dome are below, and the closest stations are the Suidobashi Station (on the JR Chuo/Sobu Line) or the Korakuen Station on the Namboku or Marunouchi Lines.
