Okayama prefecture is perfect for a 1 or 2-day rest day between the larger and denser prefectures like Kyoto and Osaka, as many of the tourist destinations are focused on relaxing, like onsen and beautiful parks. Here are some things you can do on your trip to Okayama

Day 1

After arriving at Okayama station, take a train to Kurashiki Station via the JR Sanyo line, about 15 minutes. From there, take a quiet, morning stroll through the town’s canal streets, enjoying the old-fashioned “Kura” or storage buildings that once housed the prefecture’s main trade good: rice. Some of these buildings are converted into museums and art galleries, so be sure to check them out. Once you had your fill, go back to Okayama Station, and have lunch. We recommend you find a place with Demi-glace Katsudon! Then, take a bus, or walk to the Korakuen, one of three of Japan’s greatest gardens, about 25 minutes by walking. You can spend around 2 hours just strolling and enjoying the view here. At night, you can eat at the local restaurants near the garden, and head back to your hotel.
