Gunma 2-day-tour Itinerary

Gunma prefecture is perfect for that 1 or 2-day getaway from the urban center of Japan. It is relatively easy to get to the prefecture from Tokyo, as well as being relatively cheap to get there. Here is an itinerary to get you started.

Day 1
From Tokyo, specifically Shibuya station, take the Limited Express Kusatsu train to the Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station, about 3 hours. From there, you can enjoy the Kusatsu Onsen area, particularly the Yubatake area, where you can see rows of wooden moats pouring out rushing hot spring water. There are many activities to enjoy, including warm foot baths, the preparation of spring water by “massaging” the water known as Yumomi, and many outdoor hot springs. It is best to reserve a place to stay beforehand to avoid being out of a room. The ryokan area has many restaurants, and many ryokan have dinner prepared for you.
