The Best Market in Kyoto, Japan – Shinkyogoku Shopping Street

Shinkyogoku Shopping Street is popular shopping spot in Kyoto, Japan. Many visitors and citizens like to find souvenirs and local foods in the street. Shinkyogoku is not only a market for fresh and cheap price, but also for fast fashion fixes. If you want to visit temples and shrines, here have Anyoji Temple, Saikoji Temple, Seiganji Temple and Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine located close to this street. Floresta Nature Doughnuts was incorporated in 2002 and the originally from Nara. The shop has expended to Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima.  In Kyoto, you can find at Shinkyogoku market. The shop makes many different cute handmade animal doughnuts with high quality ingredients. It feels excited when you see many animal designs and colours in the shop. IZUTSU Yatsuhashi is Kyoto sweets shop that has been existence for over 210 years. This is the most popular souvenir in Kansai region. Its well-known hard-baked cracker is one of the most popular sweet in Kyoto. They also offer a wide selection of famous sweets for you to choose. Walking pedestrian shopping streets, you will find a very casual restaurant STAR. The restaurant served many kinds of meat to seafood with rice, eggs and chips. Prices are reasonable with good size portions. This is definitely a cozy place for having your meal.

Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine is located at Shinkyogoku Shopping Street in Kyoto city. Surprisingly, you can find a shrine in the market. There have two kinds of gods enshrined called Amatsukami and Kunitsukami. Many business people and students visit and pray at the shine due to the god of learning is enshrined. You also can enjoy fresh water from the well. Many visitors bring water bottles to take the water home because of the water is clean and odourless. There have many lanterns hanging at the entrance, thus, you can find the shrine with ease. When you go to the market, you should visit the shrine too.

Wakasaya has many branches in Japan and the shop offers mainly seafood and Japanese cuisine. The important is they provide high quality foods for unbelievably cheap price. I highly recommend donburi (rice bowl cuisine) if you like seafood. This combo rice bowl had fresh seafood including tuna, salmon, yellowtail, sea urchin and other cuisine. This is one of my favourite restaurants to grab a meal during visit in Kyoto.

The shop serves baked octopus balls and there are 6 sources for you to select such as sweet source, soy source, wasabi, dry source, ginger source and Ponzu sauce recipe. If you like a hot foods, this is the best choice to you.

If you like dessert, you should try the world’s second tastiest fresh-baked Melon Pan Ice Cream at Shinkyogoku shopping street. They offer ice-cream sandwiched in a fresh-baked Melon Pan Sweet bun. The bun is very crunchy and soft texture as well as hot and fresh inside the bun. There have few ice-cream flavours to choose. I like green tea flavours.
