Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Exhibition, Roppongi

Start of the new year seen Square Enix's long running series 'Final Fantasy' reach it's 30th Anniversary and what better way to celebrate than to have an exhibition looking back over the series' often emotional storytelling.

The exhibition called 'Memories of You' is on from the 22nd January 2018 - 28th February 2018 at the Mori Arts Museum in Roppongi Hills. There is no need to buy tickets online  as you can also purchase them from the venue for ¥2,500 each or ¥4000 for two people.

The exhibition itself is interactive and informative experience for fans and new fans alike. Looking back on the first title 'Final Fantasy' released on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in the 80's to the most recent games both main series and spin offs.

The experience is immersive with each person being given headphones and a devise, as you walk around you are able to listen to the music and be told about the major events that take place in the Final Fantasy universe.

Each main game in the series has its own area ~ where you are told about the events and its impact. Don't worry if you don't understand Japanese as there are different languages available  (Japanese and English). There is a lot of art work, notes and mentions from the creators on each game and as a whole it's a great look at the history of work that's gone into the beloved series.

The exhibition itself is for everyone and also accessible if you don't speak or read Japanese. For longtime fans of the series its both nostalgic and a look to the future and for new fans its an informative and fun way to learn about the lore and stories. But please note, that if there is a game you are wanting to play there could possibly be some spoilers to the main stories as this exhibition focuses on the 'farewells' in each game.

Once you have looked, listened and experienced everything the exhibit has to offer there is of course a themed cafe and a gift shop at the end.

The cafe is serving up drinks, desserts and main meals from ¥900 to ¥1680 with a Final Fantasy twist and the gift shop has plenty of limited edition themed goodies to buy as a souvenir.

This is a must for any Final Fantasy fan who lives in or visiting Japan over the next month.  Check it out  before it’s final farewell on the 28th February 2018.
