The loveliest lunches at Sanrio's Lovely Characters Cafe!
Are you a fan of all things Sanrio? Perhaps you just appreciate Japan's dedication to presenting food in the most adorable ways. Well, right now there's a pop up cafe happening in Tokyo's Ikebukuro area that satisfies both of those requirements. It's called the Sanrio Characters Lovely Cafe, and you can find it on the 8th floor of the Seibu Ikebukuro Department Store. It celebrates some of the "retro" Sanrio characters such as Tuxedo Sam, the stylish penguin with an impressive collection of bow ties (created in 1979), and Hangyodon, a lonely fish (created in 1985). The menu at the cafe is fairly limited, but scores extremely high on the cuteness scale. There are options including a carbonara inspired udon dish, cheesy omurice, a Tuxedo Sam cream stew, cotton candy pancakes, and a marshmallow topped chocolate milk. Prices for those menu items range from around 800 to 1400 yen plus tax. Be sure to bring your camera and take a few pictures before you dig in - everything on the menu is super photogenic!
Like many of these themed cafes in Japan, the Sanrio Lovely Characters Cafe is only around for a limited time - it finishes up on April 17th, so get in fast and enjoy the cuteness! Map details for the Seibu Ikebukuro Department Store are below. If you're headed there via train, the Ikebukuro Station's East Exit is closest - the department store is approximately a minute on foot from there.
Cafe Hours The Sanrio Lovely Characters cafe is open from 11am until 11pm daily (if you're headed there on a Saturday, Sunday, or a public holiday, the cafe opens from 10:30am). Bear in mind that last orders are at 10pm.
