Renting a bike in Tokyo

A great way to experience Tokyo is by riding a bike

There are quite a few bike rental places in Tokyo, though my favourite is the bike service by Tokyo Bikes in Yanaka, Tokyo.

It's a high end bike service compared to the other options available and they provide several types excellent bikes through their site. You can rent a bike by visiting their site, choosing which day you want to rent it on and then select the type of bike you want.

All their bikes are meant for the city, though some are for leisure and others for speed. They also provide you with a helmet if you want and a lock so you can easily explore without having to bring your bike everywhere.

They usually open at 10:00 and close at 1930, it costs about 3000¥ for same day return and 1500¥ the 2nd day and onwards. 500¥ for helmet and locker as well.

If you show up early you get to rent it the whole day, and in my experience that is enough time to explore all of eastern Tokyo, like Yanaka, Akihabara, Ueno and ride along the Sumida river which I highly recommend.

When I delivered the bike, they poured me a complimentary beer while they finished up the payment. I loved the bike so much I even bought one when I got home to Norway.
