As the sakura snack trend begins to fade, we welcome back a familiar favorite to some of our favorite shops, matcha! Made from grounded green tea leaves, matcha is a popular powder used in various foods and products. Uji matcha, specifically, is cultivated between Kyoto and Nara and is known for its supreme quality. Some of our favorite Uji matcha treats this spring are below! 🍵
Mister Donut 🍩
Mister Donut has landed a partnership with tea manufacturer, Gion Tusjiri from Kyoto’s Uji City. Together, they have released 5 new Uji matcha donuts available for a limited time until mid-June. Each donut includes its own spin using the Uji matcha with flavors ranging from Pon De Uji Matcha Mascarpone Cream to Uji Matcha Tiramisu Danish. The prices of each donut differs based on flavor, starting at just 140 yen. For more information on these tasty treats or where to find a Mister Donut near you, head over to their website here!
Häagen - Dazs Matcha Salon 🍨

The salon will open in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo and will also be celebrating Häagen - Dazs’ 35th anniversary in Japan. The six-course matcha meal and price has yet to be released but the whole experience will be about an hour long. The salon will only be around until May 5th so make sure to get your exclusive matcha fix before then.

MUJI Uji Matcha Cake 🍰
Next on our list is the brand new Uji Matcha Cake from MUJI. Along with their two chilled desserts from last year, MUJI will release the Uji Matcha cake at 54 select stores selling chilled items only in Japan. At a price of 350 yen, the cake is large enough to share with a friend, but if you are as in love with matcha as we are, feel free to indulge on your own. Gudetama Café and MACCHA HOUSE 🍳
Our next collaboration is a matcha made in heaven. MACCHA HOUSE went into business with the Gudetama franchise, selling matcha flavored tiramisu and lattes at the Gudetama Café located in HEP FIVE. The tiramisu and lattes cost 600 yen each and are only available until May 6th. Not only are your favorite matcha flavored foods available, the café is also selling coasters, stickers, and placemats. Chocolat Bel Amer 🍫
With their beautiful design and delectable taste, chocolates from Chocolat Bel Amer are a must-have this season. Selling at around 280 yen per chocolate, there are about 30 flavors you can try. We recommend our favorite matcha flavors like Mandian Matcha and Chocolat Uji Matcha Azuki. What makes Chocolat Bel Amer stand out is their persistence to create flavors custom to each season. In fact, the Chocolat Uji Matcha Azuki was recently released as a Spring/Summer 2019 flavor, but it will only be here for a limited time! To find a store near you, click here!
Matcha Pocky 🍵
Pocky is a go-to Japanese snack and what makes this Glico Matcha Pocky so irresistible is not only the matcha flavored chocolate, but also the green tea that is infused in the body of the pocky stick. The sweetness of the chocolate perfectly contrasts the bitterness of the body, making it a delightful snack. While most pocky can be found at “konbini”, convenience stores around Japan for around 150 - 200 yen, you can also order them off Amazon!
Shake Shack 🍔🍦
The last treats on our list are from the New York based Shake Shack restaurant that just opened a new location in Kyoto. To go along with their grand opening, they have introduced two new, exclusive Uji matcha flavored desserts. The first is an Uji Matcha Shake made with Shake Shack’s vanilla shake and fresh matcha from a well known shop in Kyoto, Itohkyuemon. The second collaboration, named the Kyoto Cookie Cleat, was created with help from a sweets shop in Kyoto called Jouvencelle. The shop provided its famous crunchy chocolate cookies on top of Shake Shack’s vanilla custard. To finish off the dessert, dried strawberries are mixed in and an Uji matcha marshmallow sauce is drizzled on top. If you are a matcha fan like us, you won’t want to miss the Uji Matcha Shake selling for 710 yen and the Kyoto Cookie Cleat selling for 490 yen.
