If you’re craving for a different take on tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet) then this is for you. Misokatsu Yabaton is a long standing chain restaurant established in Nagoya since 1947. Their famous dish is their tonkatsu served on a hot plate with thinly sliced cabbages at the bottom. What makes it so special is its rich, red miso sauce which is made using natural soybeans. The sauce is fermented for 18 months and when it's ready, gently poured over the tonkatsu. Get the dish on its own for 1404YEN or as a set with miso soup and rice for 1836YEN.

Founded in 1873 at the Atsuta Shrine, the Hitsumabushi eel dish got its name from the eel being served in a unique wooden bowl called “hitsu”. Since then, it’s become a popular dish in Nagoya not only for its taste but for its large portion. With the unagi season just around the corner, this dish is a must try. Price ~3000YEN
