About this sight

This Tendai Buddhist temple located in Meguro, Tokyo, is the 33rd temple of the Edo 33 temples pilgrimage. The temple is well known as the last resting place of the famous lovers Hirai Gonpachi and Komurasaki. Ryusen-ji features the black-eyed statue of Meguro Fudo, one of five protective statues that used to stand at certain points in the outskirts of Edo (today's Tokyo).
