About this sight

[NOTICE: The museum will be closed for periodic maintenance during the following dates in 2016: November 7-11.] Dedicated to promoting the animated works of Studio Ghibli, this museum/theme park is the brainchild and design of Ghibli's semi-retired director, Hayao Miyazaki. Using displays, dioramas, zoetropes, sculptures, architecture and short films, the museum offers an insight into many of the director's works and inspirations. The Ghibli Museum is located in Mitaka, about 40 minutes west of Shinjuku on the JR Chuo Line. From Kichijoji station it is about a 20-minute walk through Inokashira Park; alternatively, visitors can catch a yellow-themed Ghibli bus straight to the museum from the south exit of Mitaka station. Tickets must be bought in advance, please check the Studio Ghibli website for details.
