About this sight

Located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, this shrine is dedicated to the Samurai God. The destination is said to house the spirit of Taira no Masakado, a Japanese samurai fighter killed by the Imperial Army. Many legends surround this shrine, which preserved the severed head of Masakado until World War II. Today, visitors can view the structure’s traditional architecture, marked by a giant sword mounted on the entrance roof. Red Shinto gates and statues of lion-dogs add to the grounds. Entrance into the premises is free and open to the public daily, weekends and public holidays included.
