About this sight

Chosen as one of the top 10 shrines of Tokyo during the Meiji Era, this shrine reveres a Shinto deity, Hachiman. It is known for being the birthplace of Kanin Sumo, and there is a stone monument to commend the successive Yokozuna and is inscribed with the Shikona (a sumo wrestler's ring name) of all the Yokozuna until the 69th one. The shrine hosts an annual summer festival and a golden mikoshi (portable shrine) and flea markets on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday's of each month.
