About this sight

Located in Bunkyo, this spot marks Ichiyo Higuchi's final place of residence until her death. It also commemorates the life of Higuchi and her contribution to the literary world. Higuchi was an active novelist and poet during the Meiji era. She is often recognized as one of the important writers of the Meiji era, as well as the first prominent Japanese female writer of modern times. Notably, she has garnered much praise and appreciation for her unique style of writing, which are closely based on Japanese literature than Western literature. Although Higuchi lived a brief life, passing away at the age of 24, the legacy of her works continues today.
