For all of you fox lovers, this village located in the mountains near Shiroishi has over 100 animals with 6 different types of foxes. You can enter the village and literally walk alongside the many furry animals and take pictures or videos that will definitely make you leave with a smile on your face. The first part is quite tame as most of the animals are still in cages for you to observe and take a few pictures. However, as you exit the first area and enter the real "village", you will for sure be in for quite the surprise.
The admission fee is a bargain and if you pay an extra 100 yen, you can get a bag of fox food that will surely put a smile on the fox's faces. But be warned, you are only supposed to feed the foxes within the feeding area. All of these rules are thoroughly explained by the staff at the village with signs clearly explaining the do's and don'ts.
Once the foxes realize that you are carrying food, they may start to follow you and it could take a little bit of time for them to stop but don't worry, foxes give up as well. But make sure to hide your food until you get to the feeding area if you don't want this to happen!
All throughout the village, there are miniature houses and playgrounds for the foxes to enjoy their time. They come in all sizes and furry colors, so you are in for quite the treat. From Shiroishi Station, it takes about 20-30min by car, so we would advise for you to take a rental car to get there. We hope you enjoy your time at Zao Fox Village!
