About this sight

Juniko, literally "Twelve Lakes", are lakes hidden in the beech trees forest of the Shirakami Mountain Range. A landslide in 1704 is said to have stopped the water of some rivers and created these lakes. Thanks to its preserved forests, the water of the lakes are transparent and the purified water is drinkable in some places.
