About this sight

Akafuku mochi is a traditional Japanese sweet or wagashi that is synonymous with the Ise-Shima area in Mie Prefecture. The delicacy is made from mochi or ground rice combined with fine-textured red bean paste, and its shape features undulating curves which are meant to symbolize waves of the Isuzu River, nearby to the Ise Jingu Shrine. This store, Akafuku Honten, has a 300-year history of making akafuku mochi and has been in its current building for over 150 years.
