About this sight

Also known as the Silver Pavilion, this Zen temple located in Kyoto's Higashiyama district was originally built as a retirement villa by shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa in a nod to the more famous Golden Pavilion, or Kinkaku-ji Temple built by his grandfather. In addition to the main building, the temple grounds comprise of moss and dry sand gardens, as well as other temple buildings.
