About this sight

Built in 1903, this lighthouse is the tallest in Japan, measuring in at 43.65 meters and is listed as one of the top 100 most beautiful lighthouses in the world. The lighthouse is pearly white, a stark contrast from the blue sky and ocean. Stunning views of the Japan Sea can be had at the observation deck at the top of the lighthouse (200 yen entrance fee).

The shrine, built about 380 years ago, is composed of the upper shrine "Kami no Miya" and the lower shrine "Hishizumi no Miya". The gods "Amaterasu-omikami" and "Susanoo-no-Mikoto", both of whom appear in Izumo mythology, are enshrined in the Izumo Grand Shrine, which is a designated national cultural treasure.
