About this sight

Literally meaning “International Road”, Kokusai Dori Street is also the street that never sleeps, with a host of bars, restaurants, cafes, hotels and souvenir shops catering to the throngs of tourists that head here to shop, eat and play.
This 2km stretch takes its name from the former “Ernie Pyle International Theatre”, a movie theatre that was built along the road after the war.
There are several colourful shopping arcades here such as Heiwadori, Mutsumidori and Ichiban Hondori that are fun to explore, and you are likely to be able to find some izakaya here that offer live traditional music performances together with the meal – or if you head into one that looks patronized by the locals, don’t be surprised to find the customers bursting out into song spontaneously after their meal!
