About this sight

The Museum of Kyoto is a massive red-brick building that resembles a courthouse or palace. It is divided into different sections, with each displaying different aspects of Kyoto culture. There’s a History of Kyoto section, Fine Arts and Crafts Gallery, Movie Gallery and the Movie Hall. There are permanent exhibitions that cost 800yen for adults, 500yen for college and senior high school students, and 300yen for junior high and elementary school students. Special exhibitions are also shown all year round but they cost about 200yen extra.

In case you want to bring a reminder of your visit back home, there's a large gift shop with souvenirs, arts and crafts, unique items, food and so on. Most items in the gift shop (and other surrounding shops) are reasonably priced.

The fastest way to get to this location is via the Kyoto City Subway (Karasuma Oike Station). Take the Keihan Line to Sanjo Station.

Quick Tip: The museum is always closed on Mondays. If the Monday is a national holiday, the museum would be closed on Tuesday as well.
