About this sight

Located between Kushiro City and Akan National Park, this park offers bird watching, nature viewing, and walking trails. In 1987, it was designated as a national park in order to preserve Japan's largest wetland and marsh habitat. It houses two thousand varieties of animals and plants, including Hokkaido deer and the white-tailed sea eagle as well as the only known population of endangered Japanese cranes. The park features a variety of facilities, including the Akan International Crane Center, Kushiro City Marsh Observatory, Otowa Bridge as well as several feeding stations and viewpoints. Opening hours vary depending on facility and season, but most are open between 9 am and 4 pm.
