About this sight

This castle was built by warlord Morikazu Endo during the Sengoku period in the year 1559 and is said to be the most beautiful mountain castle in Japan. After a fire, the main tower was recreated in 1933, making it the oldest wooden reconstruction of any building in Japan. Gujo Hachiman Castle was designated as an important cultural property of Gujo City in the year 1993.
