About this sight

Located in western Aomori Prefecture within the borders of Tsugaru Quasi-National Park, this volcano, also known as the "Mount Fuji of Tsugaru", is listed as one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains in a book composed by mountaineer Kyuya Fukada. Standing 1625 meters high, it is the highest mountain in Aomori prefecture and offers visitors panoramic views. Although the top can only be reached by hiking, the length of the hike depends on the route. From Iwakiyama Shrine it takes about four hours. The easier and more popular route follows a road up to a ski lift. From there, it is a 30-40-minute hike.
