About this sight

Originally built in 860, this shrine was a strategic location in Mino Province during the Middle Ages. This led to it being the site of many battles. In 1600, at the time of the Battle of Sekigahara, the Oda clan used Tejikarao as their place of prayer. When Tokugawa Ieyasu, the future founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, attacked, part of the temple was burned to the ground.
