About this sight

This memorial museum is a restoration of the building that housed Kamayama Shachu, a shipping company established by Sakamoto Ryoma who was a prominent figure in the movement to overthrow the Tokugawa regime during the Bakumatsu or final years (ca. 1853-1867) of the Edo Period in Japan. The museum was opened to the public in August 2009 and exhibits a variety of items related to the people involved with Ryoma and Kameyama Shachu.
