About this sight

A 5-minute walk from the Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle Park, this cultural center is situated at the site of a former Noh theater. The Kanazawa Noh Museum showcases items central to Noh Theater as an art form, such as masks, costumes and an experiential stage. Patronised by the Maeda family, samurai lords of the Kaga clan in Kanazawa, Noh flourished in the Edo Period. This theater style is celebrated for its widespread appeal in the courts and by common-folk. Sano Kichinosuke, known for leading the revival of Kaga Hosho, was key to promoting and preserving Noh in Kanazawa during the Meiji Restoration.
