About this sight

As the only mangrove forest in a coral reef area in Japan, this unique ecosystem is a designated wildlife protection area. The Nagura Wetlands are surrounded by sandbanks at the mouth of the Nagura River. The area is home to many rare plants and animals. The habitat includes about 200 bird species and 60 species of crustaceans, such as crabs. Visitors may also explore the area by booking kayaking tours with local companies.
