Oboke Gorge
Oboke is a popular place for rafting due to its wild torrent.
This museum showcases materials and relics of the Taira Clan, a major clan of samurai. The family is also often referred to as Heishi or Heike, using a different reading of the name's Chinese characters. The museum used to be the residence of the descendants of Horikawa Naiki, Emperor Antoku's private doctor. After the Heike Clan lost the Genpei War against the Minamoto Clan, he and the remaining members of the Heike Clan sought refuge in the remote Iya region, where Horikawa served as a doctor and oracle. The museum's garden houses an 800-year-old tree for visitors to see. The inside has remained untouched since the Edo period (1600-1868) and displays armor, flags, ancient documents and more.
