About this sight

This island is located in the Seto Inland Sea and is comprised of two towns: Tonosho and Shodoshima. The name literally translates to "small beans island" as the island is well known for producing soy sauce. The first area in Japan to successfully grow olives, it now is even better known for its olive plantations and dubbed "Olive Island". Shodo Island is also famous for being the set location of the novel Twenty-Four Eyes, published by Sakae Tsuboi in 1952, and its film adaptation. The island offers visitors beaches and resorts as well as coastal and mountainous sceneries.
