About this sight

Established in the Edo period (1603-1868), this is the last teahouse on the old Tokkaido road, a highway which linked Edo (today's Tokyo) with Kyoto during that time. This rest stop serves weary travelers traditional beverages and snacks. For drinks, the shop offers amazake, a sweet non-alcoholic drink used as a sports drink in the Samurai period. The shop also sells chikara-mochi, steamed glutinous rice balls, in different flavors.
