About this sight

Built around 1,500 years ago and known locally as "Kawakami-sama", this shrine is located close to the museum of popular cartoon, Anpanman. Ampanman’s author Takashi Yanase was born and raised in Monobegawa and had close relationship with the Okawakami Birafu Shrine.

When Takashi passed away, 32 famous Japanese anime artists including Tetsuya Chiba (Ashita no Jo) and Masashi Ueda (Kobo chan) created and donated paintings which can be seen on the shrine’s ceiling.
