Social media is an absolute giant and can be overwhelming for a lot of people, it can also be detrimental to your health since we spend so much time on our phones nowadays, consumed by the need to see what's going on. While someone like good ol Gary Vaynerchuck is an advocate to use every social media out there and I respect that hustle but sometimes you're better off focusing on just a few, don't put all of your eggs in one basket of course but don't feel like you need to use ALL of the social platforms out there. Instagram, I feel, is the best out of the giants out there, just because it's much more visual rather than walls of text, it's more pleasing to the eyes.
When it comes to possible employment or job opportunities, LinkedIn gets overlooked even though it does count as a social media platform, it's just more catered to business obviously, so if you're looking for work then LinkedIn should be considered too.

Great insight into your growth Emma!

@daniel - With so many social media platforms out there, I'd recommend the ones that are interesting to you and are practical. For me, Snapchat isn't that appealing and plus I doubt anyone wants to see a man in his 30s in front of a computer all day editing videos. I prefer YouTube and Instagram for content distribution, and Twitter and Discord for conversation and news.

@Andy - Couldn't agree more Andy, Discord is a good shout, it can pretty much replace Facebook groups with more features and control! plus voice chats, can't go wrong with a few voice chats within your circles.

@Daniel - Exactly! Aside from Messenger, I don't use Facebook at all anymore.

& @Andy – I'm noticing that Facebook has a wide range of solid groups that are helpful for someone who wants to move to Japan. Groups like Gaijinpot are great because the majority of its members are expats or foreigners in Japan who are or have gone through issues of moving to Japan already.

Although Facebook may be a platform that many of us don't use anymore (except Messenger), perhaps it might also be worth exploring these Facebook groups and start conversations... who know who you'll meet!

Thanks for the tip Emma! As an inspiring social media influencer, I am also realizing the growth in building my own social media brand is taking longer than I expected. I also love hearing the transitioning part from starting your brand as a hobby to a career. I think no one knows the hard work and effort it takes to reach the status you have today. Thank you for being so honest and sharing your experience in becoming Tokidoki Traveller.

Hopefully @TokyoCreative can have another event in Tokyo soon so I can learn more about this exciting social media influencing industry in Japan! I'll definitely attend!
